 Greetings Nordics!

As I write this, looking out the window in Lone Butte, it looks like snow tonight...

I know, too early, but its around the corner...

We’re starting to think ski season, and all the organizing it takes to make a successful year.

First up is the annual call for folks to take coaching courses.

We REALLY need folks to step up, and volunteer to take the first 2 courses, in order to have enough coaches

to continue our highly successful Ski S’Kool program.

We already have a stable of great coaches, but are looking for more, so the present coaches don’t have

to volunteer so much time.  Many hands make light work, so please consider helping.  From all reports

everyone had a great time last season, the kids really were happy to learn to ski!

The Nordics will pay for your course.  We hope to secure grants again this year to help with the costs.

As a Ski S’Kool coach you would not be on your own.  The Ski S’Kool coordinator will have everything organized

for you, and you will have a helper and be coaching alongside other groups.

We also need helpers who have taken the courses, so if you’re not sure about coaching, you can start out as a helper.

Ski S’Kool allows EVERY grade 3 age child in our area to try out Cross Country Skiing, something many

of the kids would never experience otherwise.  Last year we offered 2 lessons each, and this year the

plan is for 3 lessons each. The Nordics recognizes that not all families can afford organized sports outside of

School.  We agree, “It takes a Community to Raise a Child”. Please consider your abilities as a gift to share!

For more information on Ski S’Kool contact our coordinator, Lydia Degroot 250-593-0364 glenn_lydia@hotmail.com

For current Nordics members, you will have just received Cross Country BC’s annual magazine, and in it, on pages 5 & 38

is an article about our highly successful 2016-17 season.  We’d sure like to continue the trend, with increased membership

and participation!

Coaching courses aren’t just for Ski S’Kool, we’re hoping to see an increase in numbers of kids signing up for our regular Skill Development

program as well, so are always looking for coaches for these lessons. For more information on Skill Development, contact Kristi Iverson,

The first Coaching course, Introduction to Community Coaching Workshop (ICCW) will be held Oct 20 – 21, Friday night and Saturday.

It is held in the classroom, Dryland, not on skis.

The Second course, Community Coaching Workshop is partially in the classroom, partially on Snow, Nov 24 – 26.  Friday night, most of the day Sat, and half day Sunday.

In addition, for coaches who are wishing to increase their coaching skills, we are also offering the next Coaching courses in the

National Coaching Certification Program.

L2T (Learning to Train) Dryland – Oct 27 – 29.

L2T (Learning to Train) On Snow – Dec 9 – 10.
